The Overview of Islam presented a detailed coverage of Islam from a worldview, theology and everyday religious practice perspective.
The course was presented by our guest speaker from Sydney, Mehmet Ozalp. Mehmet has developed and written material for a number of courses on personal leadership and Islamic theology, history and contemporary issues around Islam and Muslims. He has been teaching these courses since year 2000. He is also the writer of two books titled "101 Questions You Asked About Islam" and “Islam in the Modern World”. Mehmet is currently a director and the serving Executive Officer of Affinity Intercultural Foundation. He is a PhD Candidate in Islamic Theology at Sydney University and is an occasional lecturer on Islamic theology, history and culture.
The course has attracted over 40 participants for two consecutive days. Here is an excerpt from one our participant's comments: "The course indeed met my expectations especially when it concerns arguing against viewing Islam and practising Islam as 'blind-faith'. I only wished such explanation and lectures are available in my home country…The approach to explaining about Islam is very good and effective. As there are proven examples and logic and rational proofs. It makes one more appreciative of Islam and its beauty. Not many speakers can explicitly explain Islam in the manner Mehmet did… I wished more topics in the manual could be covered although I understand the constrain of time etc..."
