The first ever Western Australian Parliament Iftar (breaking of fast) Dinner took place on Thursday, 20th September 2007 at Fraser’s Restaurant in Kings Park. This multi-faith event, jointly hosted by the Hon. Kate Doust, MLC and the Hon. Barbara Scott from the Liberal Party, brought together members of Parliament, welcomed Muslims and other religious leaders and members of the wider community to celebrate breaking of fast during the holy Muslim month of Ramadan.
State parliament members hosted the Iftar dinner at a time when Muslim community feels isolated and marginalized.
The dinner was organized by Intercultural Harmony Society which is a recently founded non-government, non-profit organization striving for the development and promotion of dialogue, harmony and integration between the various faiths and cultures that manifest the Australian Multicultural population.

- The Most Reverend Roger Herft, Archbishop of Perth who gave a warm speech, addressing harmony & the importance of dialogue in all religions.
- Mr. Mehmet Ozalp – Director and Founder of Affinity Intercultural Foundation and author of two books: "101 Questions You Asked about Islam" and “Islam in the Modern World”. He has also co-authored the book entitled “Sustained Dialogue: Close Encounters of the Muslim-Christian Kind”. Mr. Ozalp spoke about the month of Ramadan and the importance and benefits of fasting, and said about the event: “Tonight we are making history”
